Cuomo: DIRT Week will be at Donnelly's new track in Oswego County
Glenn Donnelly, who is building a racetrack in Hastings in Oswego County, attends Gov. Andrew Cuomo's news conference on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at the New York State Fair to announce that Super DIRT Week is moving from the fairgrounds to Donnelly's track. (Tim Knauss | email@example.com)
CAPITAL FOR A DAY: SYRACUSE
GEDDES, N.Y. -- Glenn Donnelly's planned Central New York Raceway Park in Hastings will be Super DIRT Week's new home.
New York State will invest $5 million in the development of the racetrack, in addition to $2.75 million that had been previously committed, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today at the New York State Fairgrounds. The state will also pay for some marketing and promotion of the new facility, Cuomo said.
The fairgrounds has hosted the five-day DIRT racing event for decades. But the state fair grandstand and racetrack will be demolished this year as part of a massive makeover of the fairgrounds. Cuomo said today the cost of the renovations, including infrastructure upgrades, is estimated at $70 million.
Cuomo made his announcement Wednesday during his "Capital for a Day" event in the Syracuse area.

Central New York Raceway Park is a big racing complex being built in Oswego County by Donnelly, the entrepreneur who started Super DIRT Week and ran it for 33 years.
Central New York Raceway Park is being built in a 150-acre field between Route 11 and Interstate 81, just 17 miles north of Syracuse and a 30-minute drive from the fairgrounds in Geddes.
The park's main attraction will be a 2.2-mile road course, but Donnelly is also planning a half-mile synthetic dirt oval track for harness racing, dirt car racing and other kinds of racing. Plans also include a 56-bay NASCAR-style garage and a five-story "command center" with a 300-seat restaurant, VIP suites, a video production studio and offices.

The Cuomo administration already had pledged to provide nearly $3 million in grants to help offset the estimated $50 million cost of building Donnelly's race park. The additional $5 million announced today will help expand the capacity of the facility, Donnelly said.
"It gets us so that we can upgrade from handling 7,000 people to 10,000,'' Donnelly said. "Being able to handle, like, 1,500 campers instead of 300.''
DIRT Week has committed to stay at Central New York Raceway Park for at least 10 years, Cuomo said.
Super DIRT Week draws 70,000 fans and more than 300 race cars over five days, making it one of the biggest racing events in the Northeast. This year's event, scheduled for Oct. 7 through Oct. 11, will be the last at the state-owned fairgrounds
